Singapore-Stanford Biodesign Fellowship

Details on SSB Fellowship

The goal of the Singapore-Stanford Biodesign Fellowship is to train and nurture the next generation of Asian medical device innovators in Singapore for Asia.

This highly competitive program is directed towards Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents who have an interest in the invention and early stage development of new medical technologies for Asian markets (e.g. China, SE Asia).

During the fellowship, approximately half of the fellows' time is spent at Stanford University's Biodesign Program and the other half in Singapore. Fellows will work on multidisciplinary teams to join other innovators with a combination of engineering, medical and business backgrounds.

The team will examine clinical needs within the Asian healthcare setting, identifying new opportunities for medical technology innovation. Working closely with Stanford, A*STAR and NUS and NTU, the teams invent, prototype, develop and patent one or more new technologies. Fellows are also mentored by "real-world" experts from the medical technology, legal and venture capital industries in the United States, Singapore and the Asian region.

The fellowship begins in January each year.

Successful applicants should have advanced degrees (i.e. MS, MBA, Ph.D., M.D., M.B.B.S) and/or significant industry work experience.

SSB will be selecting 4 fellows from multiple disciplines (i.e. clinical, engineering, business) for the 2011 fellowship.
